Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, has announced that 51-year-old captive Nadav Popplewell died as a result of injuries he sustained in an Israeli airstrike more than a month ago.
Spokesman for the Brigades Abu Obeida said that Popplewell had suffered his injuries in the same aerial attack that injured prisoner Judy Fenstein, adding that he died after failing to provide him with intensive health care as a result of the Israeli destruction of hospitals in Gaza.
The Brigades’ announcement on Saturday came just hours after it released an 11-second video showing Popplewell with a bruised eye.
In the video which was circulated on social media, a man is seen wearing a white T-shirt while introducing himself as Nadav Popplewell from the Nirim kibbutz in southern Israel.
In the same video, superimposed text in Arabic and Hebrew reads: “Time is running out. Your government is lying.”
