The Palestinian health ministry in the Gaza Strip has warned that the besieged Palestinian territory’s healthcare system is “hours away” from collapse after the Israeli occupation army blocked fuel shipments through border crossings.

“We are just hours away from the collapse of the healthcare system in the Gaza Strip due to the lack of fuel supplies needed to operate hospitals’ generators, ambulances and vehicles used to transport staff,” the ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Palestinian health officials in Gaza have repeatedly accused the occupation army of deliberately targeting the health sector as part of a policy to make Gaza unlivable and coercively displace Palestinians from their homes.

Further straining the medical sector, the Israeli army has ordered the evacuation of the Kuwait Specialized Hospital in Rafah in southern Gaza.

Israeli troops have taken control of the Rafah crossing with Egypt since last Tuesday, halting the flow of life-saving aid into the coastal enclave.

Recently, the UN warned of a total collapse of the flow of aid to Gaza civilians following the closure the Rafah crossing with Egypt and the Karam Abu Salem crossing with Israel, while its officials say northern Gaza is experiencing “full-blown famine.”
