Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob announced on Thursday that his country has recognized the State of Palestine, making it the fourth European country to take such a step in the past two days.

Golob said in a statement following a government meeting that the latter had decided to recognize Palestine as an independent and sovereign state within the 1967 borders, in accordance with international law and UN Security Council resolutions.

Golob added, “This decision carries only one message, which is our demand for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza and the immediate release of hostages.”

He continued, “This decision is not against the State of Israel or anyone else,” explaining that the government will refer the decision to parliament and request support from the deputies.

On Tuesday, Spain, Norway, and Ireland announced their recognition of the State of Palestine, bringing the number of countries that have recognized it to 147 out of 193 in the United Nations General Assembly.
