The streets of London on Saturday saw a massive turnout as hundreds of thousands gathered to participate in a national demonstration demanding an end to the Israeli actions in Gaza. The protesters, representing a wide cross-section of society, called on the UK government to cease its support and arms sales to Israel. “The UK must take a stand for human rights and international law. Our government cannot continue to arm and support a regime that is committing atrocities against the Palestinian people,” said Adnan Hmidan, Vice President of the Palestinian Forum in Britain.

The demonstration began at noon in Russell Square, where participants assembled before marching towards Parliament Square. The atmosphere was charged with a mixture of solemnity and determination as protesters held aloft banners and placards emblazoned with messages such as “Stop the Genocide in Gaza,” “End the Occupation,” and “No More Arms to Israel.” The crowd was diverse, comprising individuals of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds, united in their call for peace and justice.

Addressing the crowd, Faris Amer, speaking on behalf of the Palestinian Forum in Britain, expressed deep gratitude for the solidarity shown over the past eight months. “Brothers and sisters, on behalf of the Palestinian Forum, and all the Palestinian people, I thank you all for your solidarity and tremendous efforts over the last eight months. After eight months of Zionist genocide against the Palestinian people, a few things have become abundantly clear for the whole world. The Americans, the Germans, and the Brits amongst others, are not only complicit but are instrumental in Israel’s attempt to erase Palestinians from Gaza. Without American weapons and British surveillance, and crucially, diplomatic cover, the genocidal Zionist entity cannot continue on its path of evil.”

Several other prominent figures addressed the crowd, including human rights activists, MPs, and community leaders. They criticized the UK government’s stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, accusing it of complicity through its continued arms trade and political support for Israel. Speakers highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where recent escalations have led to significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction.

The protest remained peaceful, with organizers emphasizing the importance of non-violent demonstration.

This demonstration is one of the largest of its kind in recent memory, reflecting growing public frustration and concern over the ongoing conflict in Gaza. It underscores a significant portion of the UK’s population demanding a shift in government policy and greater accountability in its international relations.

As the day concluded with a rally in Parliament Square, chants of “Free Palestine” echoed through the streets, signaling a resolute call for change. The organizers have vowed to continue their efforts until substantive actions are taken by the UK government.
