The UN’s World Food Program (WFP) announced the suspension of aid delivery operations through the US-built pier in Gaza, due to safety concerns amid Israeli attacks on the Strip.
WFP Director Cindy McCain said that concerns over the safety of her team was the main reason behind this decision.
McCain explained that the cessation of aid distribution came after two of WFP warehouses in Gaza City were rocketed and that a staffer was injured, assuring that other areas of the Strip are operational.
The US broadcaster CBS quoted the UN official as calling for an immediate ceasefire, so that aid from WFP and other organizations can flow to Gaza.
The US forces reinstalled the floating dock off the Gaza Strip coasts on Friday, days after it was towed towards the port of the coastal city of Ashdod in 1948 occupied Palestine to carry out repair and rehabilitation operations after part of it broke off on May 25 and was washed away by waves towards the city.
