Medical sources announced the martyrdom of a child in Gaza Strip on Friday due to starvation and dehydration, bringing the total number of malnutrition-related deaths in the besieged enclave to 40, according to WAFA news agency.

The medical sources said, “The child died as a result of malnutrition and drought, and the lack of medical supplies at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah city in Central Gaza.”

More than 200 children in the Gaza Strip showed symptoms of malnutrition because of the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in the northern Gaza Strip, which is witnessing a looming famine, according to medical sources in Kamal Adwan Hospital.

Residents of the northern Gaza Strip, about 700,000 people, have been suffering from severe shortage of food and vegetables, as a result of the ongoing Israeli closure of border crossings and bans on aid delivery into the Strip since May 7, according to local, officials and international organizations.

The World Health Organization warned on Wednesday that many residents of the Strip are exposed to “catastrophic levels of acute hunger and famine like conditions.”

For its part, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine has warned of a real famine looming in Gaza, especially in the northern Gaza Strip, stressing the danger of the continuation of the worsening humanitarian catastrophe, which increased systematically after the Israeli ground invasion of the city of Rafah and the closure of all crossings.

In a statement, the Front held the US administration and the international community responsible for the Zionist starvation war against the Strip, especially in the north.
