The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned about the critical health care needs of Palestinians in war-ravaged Gaza, emphasizing that only a few of its health centers remain operational in the region.

In a statement posted on its X account on Thursday, UNRWA highlighted severe shortages of medicines and fuel hindering life-saving operations in Gaza. It stressed that safe and sustainable access to aid cannot be delayed any longer.

Simultaneously, the UN agency stated that ongoing insecurity and Israeli military attacks in southern Gaza continue to pose significant obstacles to humanitarian efforts.

Last week, several Israeli airstrikes targeted the surroundings of the Mawasi area, displacing numerous refugees, it noted.

UNRWA cautioned that power cuts due to fuel shortages still jeopardize the lives of critically ill patients, including newborns, kidney dialysis patients, and those in intensive care units in hospitals.

According to the agency, partners involved in response efforts report that groundwater pumping, the main water source in Gaza, has decreased by over 50%, from 35,000 cubic meters per day to just 15,000 cubic meters per day.
