In his first statement after his release from Israeli jails on Monday morning, the director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya, affirmed that the situation in the Israeli prisons is tragic.
Abu Salmiya told reporters that “the prison situation is tragic and very difficult, which requires decisive measures from the resistance and the Arab peoples to free the prisoners.”
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) released on Monday 50 detainees from the Gaza Strip, including Abu Salmiya, who was arrested after his forced evacuation from Al-Shifa Medical Complex on November 23, 2023.
Abu Salmiya stressed that the prisoners are unprecedently going through too difficult conditions amid shortage of food and drink supplies and being subjected to insults, in a situation they have not ever witnessed since the Nakba in 1948.
“The Israeli occupation forces have been targeting everyone and arresting everyone without exception. There are medical personnel who have been martyred under torture inside the Israeli prisons,” he added.
Abu Salmiya stressed that “the IOF exposed its criminality by targeting medical personnel, journalists, women and men and destroying everything in the Gaza Strip.”
“However, we will rebuild the Gaza Strip from scratch, and we will restore Al-Shifa Medical Complex from which we were arrested,” he vowed.
