The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that the Gaza Strip is on the verge of losing an entire generation of children due to the devastating Israeli war which has entered its tenth month.
The Director of Media and Communications at UNRWA, Juliette Touma, revealed, in a post on X on Friday, that 600,000 children in Gaza have not been able to go to school since the start of the Israeli aggression, referring to the closure of schools in the Strip, and the transformation of UNRWA schools into shelters for the displaced people.
If the war continues, it will lead to the risk of losing an entire generation of children, she said, stressing that it would be so difficult to compensate for their educational losses, calling for an immediate ceasefire for the sake of Gaza children.
The spokesman for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), James Elder, had previously stated that children are the most affected social group by the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, describing what is happening in the Strip as a “war on children”.
Elder told the Anadolu Agency that Gaza was no longer a suitable place for children because of the war and its psychological impact on them.
