The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said that the Palestinian prisoners held in Israel’s Shatta jail are suffering from extremely harsh detention conditions, as Israeli prison administration has been dealing with them with hatred, racism, and revenge, and subjecting them continuously to torture including beating, abusing, and deliberately starving them and depriving them of medical treatment.

The Commission revealed in a report on Wednesday that Israeli occupation authorities are obviously pursuing a systematic policy against Palestinian figures and national symbols among the prisoners.

It explained that Shatta jail includes 101 prisoners and that 30 detainees of them are sentenced to life, pointing out that a large number of them were subjected to torture that resulted in fractures in their backs, chests, and fingers, adding that they were brutally hit on sensitive areas that led to bleeding from their bodies and heads, amid insults and curses.

The Commission pointed out that some prisoners are suffering from nervous and psychological problems, adding that due to denying them access to medicines and analgesics, they show involuntary behaviors, which are usually taken as a pretext by Israeli jailers to storm prisoners’ rooms and start attacking the detainees, despite knowing very well that they are sick and have medical files in the prison clinic.

The Commission condemned the continuation of international and institutional silence regarding what is happening inside Israeli prisons and detention centers, stressing that it gives the Israeli occupation authorities a green light to persist in abusing prisoners.
