The mayor of Rafah, Ahmed Al-Sufi, said that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) turned the city into a disaster area after destroying more than 70% of the governorate’s infrastructure, including roads, water and sewage networks, tanks, water wells, the central market, and municipal facilities.
The IOF adopted a scorched earth policy, after destorying 80% of the Al-Shoka area, the Al-Salam neighborhood, and the western Yabna and Rafah camps, along with large squares of Tal Al-Sultan and Al-Saudi neighborhoods, and the Western Camp, in addition to more than 60% of Al-Shaboura camp.
Al-Sufi explained that these are preliminary estimates that will be re-examined after the IOF’s withdrawal from the city.
He pointed out that the Rafah municipal administration is working to communicate with Arab and international donors to quickly begin the reconstruction of the demolished facilities.
