OCHA: 9% of Gaza’s population displaced last week

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that 9% of the Gaza Strip’s population was displaced in the past week alone due to Israeli evacuation orders.

The UN office explained that 29,000 people were present in the area that the Israeli occupation army ordered to be evacuated on Sunday (in the southern area of Khan Yunis), noting that this was followed by other evacuation orders from Al-Bureij camp in Central Gaza.

The repeated displacement deprives civilians of survival with dignity, it highlighted.

The UN body pointed out that the UN humanitarian partners estimate that more than 190,000 Palestinians have been displaced this week from Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah since the evacuation order was issued last Monday. Hundreds of others are still trapped in eastern Khan Yunis as the Israeli invasion of the area continues, it added.

The UN office confirmed that the recent evacuation orders and intense hostilities have affected relief operations and undermined efforts to provide essential assistance to civilians in Khan Yunis.

The continued insecurity and the allocation of only one access point for the entry and exit of humanitarian workers, namely the Karm Abu Salem crossing, undermined the efforts to deploy urgently needed emergency medical teams in Gaza to ease the burden on the exhausted medical staff in the Strip.

Last Monday, the Israeli occupation forces launched a new military operation east of Khan Yunis, months after withdrawing from the city following a large-scale attack that left a large number of martyrs and widespread destruction.
