The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan extended his condolences to the family of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haneyya who was assassinated early Wednesday in the Iranian capital Tehran.

This came in a phone call with Haneyya’s wife and children on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by the Turkish Presidency’s Communication Department.

The statement said, “President Erdogan expressed his deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Haneyya as a result of a treacherous assassination.”

Erdogan said shortly after the assassination, “I strongly condemn and denounce the treacherous assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haneyya in Tehran.”

“It was a despicable attempt to undermine the Palestinian cause, the glorious struggle of Gaza, and the legitimate resistance of our Palestinian brothers, aiming to demoralize, intimidate, and suppress them,” he added.

Erdogan stressed that Haneyya’s assassination mirrors previous attacks on Palestinian figures like Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and Abdul Aziz al-Rantisi, asserting that “Zionist barbarism will once again fail to achieve its goals.”

Haneyya was martyred at dawn Wednesday in an assassination operation that targeted him at his place of residence in the Iranian capital, Tehran, after participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president.
