UN rights chief Volker Türk said on Thursday that the number of Palestinians killed in Gaza passed the dark milestone of 40,000.
“On average, about 130 people have been killed every day in Gaza over the past 10 months,” Türk continued, describing the “scale of the Israeli military’s destruction of homes, hospitals, schools and places of worship [as] deeply shocking.”
He further called for an end to the killing “once and for all” and the release of all captives.
Meanwhile, negotiators prepare to meet in Qatar to renew efforts to halt the conflict and avert a wider war.
Since October 7, the Israeli occupation has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in tens of thousands of martyrs, wounded, and missing, in addition to the displacement of two million people and the widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure, affecting more than 70% of buildings, along with a tight siege, a stifling humanitarian crisis and an unprecedented famine, especially in northern Gaza.
The health ministry in Gaza said on Thursday that the Israeli occupation army committed three massacres in different areas of the Gaza Strip during the past 24 hours, killing at least 40 civilians and injuring over 107 others.
