Namibia has blocked a ship suspected of carrying weapons bound for Israel from docking at one of its ports, in line with Namibia’s support for the Palestinian people and its call to end the war in Gaza.

Al-Jazeera Net reported that the New Era newspaper quoted Namibia’s Minister of Justice Yvonne Dausab as saying that the Namibia Ports Authority had been instructed to prevent the MV Kathrin ship, which set off from Vietnam, from docking in Walvis Bay on August 18, because allowing it would be a violation of the country’s obligations under international law.

Dusaab cited the police as saying that the ship “was indeed carrying explosive materials bound for Israel and was therefore prevented from entering Namibian waters.”

She stressed that “Namibia complies with its obligations not to support or be complicit in Israel’s war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and illegal occupation of Palestine.”

For its part, the Hamas Movement appreciated Namibia’s step, saying this position comes “in line with Namibia’s support for the Palestinian people and their just cause and its call for ending the genocidal war against the Gaza Strip.”
