Tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in Liverpool in the United Kingdom on Saturday to participate in a national march calling for an immediate end to the UK’s military support for Israel and demanding concrete action from the Labor Party to stand against the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
The march, organized by the Palestinian Forum in Britain (PFB), Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War Coalition, Friends of Al Aqsa, Muslim Association of Britain, and Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, coincided with the Labor Party’s annual conference, providing a powerful platform for demonstrators to voice their concerns directly to the party leadership.
The protest was a direct response to Labor’s recent voting record at the United Nations, where the party failed to support the resolution demanding Israel’s immediate withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories. This decision was met with outrage by the Palestinian community and its supporters, who view Labor’s stance as a tacit endorsement of Israeli aggression.
One of the central demands of the march was a complete halt to the UK’s supply of weapons and military assistance to Israel. Protesters emphasized that it is morally indefensible for the UK to continue arming a state that repeatedly violates international law and perpetuates the occupation of Palestinian land. The marchers voiced their deep disappointment in the Labor Party’s failure to support a United Nations resolution that called for Israel’s immediate withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories, urging the party to realign its policies with its historical commitment to human rights and justice.
The march also carried a strong call for Labor to act urgently in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. With the ongoing genocide threatening millions of lives, the PFB and its supporters demanded that the Labor Party use its political influence to advocate for an immediate cessation of violence and ensure protection for Palestinian civilians.
Zaher Birawi, the Chairman of PFB, stressed that “the UK’s global role must be defined by a commitment to human rights and international law. The Labor’s current stance, particularly its failure to support the UN resolution, risks alienating not only the Palestinian community but also its allies across Britain.”
Birawi added, “we march today with a clear message for the Labor Party: we demand a complete stop to the UK’s military support for Israel and a stronger stance against the atrocities committed in Gaza. Labor must recognize the urgent need to intervene and stop the genocide, as well as reassess its disappointing vote at the United Nations. Now is the time for Labor to stand on the right side of history and champion the values of justice, peace, and humanity.”
