The Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority said that the ongoing Israeli war of genocide on Gaza, for a year now, has caused destruction to about 70% of electricity networks, while initial estimates of the damage amounted to about $450 million.

The Energy Authority explained in a statement on Monday that various networks were severely damaged by a percentage exceeding 68%, in addition to the destruction of 70% of the buildings of the Energy Authority and the Distribution Company in Gaza, 90% of the warehouses and stores, which were affected along with its contents, and the destruction of 82% of the vehicles and mechanisms of the Electricity Distribution Company of the Gaza governorates.

The Authority indicated that more than 3,530 km of networks were destroyed, in addition to the destruction of more than 2,105 electrical distribution transformers, and 235,000 electrical meters.

According to the statement, the Authority and the crews of the Electricity Distribution Company of Gaza governorates have been facing very big challenges since the beginning of the aggression, including removing the dangers of destroyed networks to preserve the lives of citizens and limit the damage, securing the remaining components of the networks and aiding relief and international organizations.

The Energy Authority called on the international community to provide the necessary support and contribute to the reconstruction of electricity infrastructure, the damage value of which exceeded $450 million, in order to ensure the operation of vital sectors, most notably health, water, sanitation, services, communications, education, mills and bakeries.
