A health catastrophe is imminent at the Israeli Negev prison, which houses thousands of Palestinian detainees, according to the Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS), as hundreds of them have contracted scabies.
According to a press release issued by the two human rights organizations on Monday, the prisoners are suffering from complex and difficult health symptoms, especially that the prison administration denied them the appropriate medical care.
According to the statement, Palestinian lawyers recently visited 35 inmates in the Negev prison from October 27 to 30. Their testimonies revealed the appalling conditions in which they are held, confirming once more that the prison administration aims to kill them by any means.
They noted that the Negev prison, which has been and still is a symbol of sexual assaults, torture crimes, and the spread of diseases, particularly scabies, has recently received a large number of sick inmates.
According to the attorneys, 25 of the 35 prisoners who were visited in the Negev prison had scabies. They emphasized that this is a small sample of hundreds of infected inmates who are continuously tortured and subjected to systematic medical crimes by the prison administration, which uses the disease as a tool to torture them.
According to the statement, all the detainees’ testimonies contained extremely graphic information about how they suffered from the illness without receiving any kind of treatment and how the prison administration failed to address the factors that led to the disease’s ongoing spread.
