The Hamas Movement has hailed Spain’s move to deny docking permission to two cargo vessels suspected of transporting weapons to Israel.
In a statement, the Movement said the move is “in line with the honorable position of Spain in rejecting the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and to prevent supplying it with weapons to continue its genocide against the Palestinian people.”
The Movement stressed that the US administration’s continued support for the Israeli occupation with weapons and military equipment holds it legally, politically, morally and humanitarianly responsible for its crimes, massacres and the genocidal war against Palestinian civilians for more than a year.
It urged the UN to pass a resolution that criminalizes and prohibits exporting arms to Israel and forces it to end its assault on Gaza.
According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, the ships that left New York requested to dock in Spain’s Algeciras port. A Foreign Ministry spokesman was quoted as saying the vessels “will not stop in Spain” without providing more details.
Spain has heavily criticized Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza. In May, along with Norway and Ireland, it recognized the State of Palestine.
