WHO: Northern Gaza faces humanitarian catastrophe amid aid shortages

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of a worsening humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip, particularly in the north, due to a severe shortage of medicines, food, fuel, and shelter.

In a statement, the organization called on Israel to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid and ensure it reaches those in need.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the organization’s director-general, confirmed that the vast majority of displaced people have sought refuge in public buildings or with relatives, while 90% are living in tents, making them susceptible to serious illnesses, especially with the onset of winter and the risks of cold and flooding. He added that conditions in northern Gaza have become horrific since the Israeli military launched a large-scale operation in the area, warning of a worsening of malnutrition and food insecurity among the besieged population.

Since September 30, the occupation army has obstructed the entry of any trucks carrying food, water, or medicines into northern Gaza, according to the United Nations and the Israeli military agency overseeing humanitarian aid crossings. Northern Gaza is suffering from dire conditions, with a lack of drinking water, medicines, and food supplies, while aid deliveries are blocked amid ongoing airstrikes, artillery shelling, and demolition operations, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
