A baby girl froze to death on Wednesday inside her displaced family’s tent in Khan Yunis, south of Gaza, as a result of the extreme cold weather and the absence of heating means.
Medical sources at the Nasser Hospital said that two-week-old Sila al-Fasih died at dawn as a result of her presence in a fragile tent that have no protection from the extreme cold temperatures in the Gaza Strip.
Last Friday, another infant called Aisha al-Qassas died from the cold in a tent where her displaced family was sheltering.
Scores of Gaza families live in precarious makeshift shelters that might not survive the winter.
With nighttime temperatures dropping significantly, Gaza families fear that their kids will get sick or die without warm clothing or heating means.
According to the UN, at least 945,000 people urgently need winterization supplies, which have become prohibitively expensive in Gaza.
