OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)
The Hams Movement has strongly denounced the decision taken by the Republic of Fiji’s government to open an embassy in the occupied Palestinian city of Jerusalem.
In a statement on Tuesday, Hamas condemned Fiji’s decision as “aggression against the Palestinian people’s rights” and a “blatant violation of the principles of international law and the UN resolutions that clearly state that Jerusalem is an occupied Palestinian territory.”
Hamas called on the Fijian government to immediately backtrack on such an illegal step and to side with the values of justice and humanity and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
On Tuesday, Fiji’s foreign ministry announced on its official website that the country’s cabinet approved the establishment of an embassy to Israel in Occupied Jerusalem.
There are currently a few countries with embassies in Jerusalem — United States, Papua New Guinea, Kosovo, Honduras, Guatemala, and Paraguay
