KHAN YUNIS, (PIC)
Khan Yunis Municipality in the southern Gaza Strip appealed to donor institutions and the international community to intervene immediately and urgently to bring in pumping and clearing equipment for the maintenance of sewage networks that were destroyed by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) during the genocidal war, as well as heavy machinery to remove rubble and open streets.
The Khan Yunis Municipality’s Emergency Committee explained in a statement on Saturday that the IOF targeted the municipality’s service work system, as it destroyed 24 machines serving water, sanitation, and hygiene sectors, and swept away 100,000 linear meters of transmission lines and main sewage networks.
The committee stated that the IOF exacerbated the daily suffering of the residents as a result of the overflow of sewage water in the streets resulting from the IOF repeated targeting of residential areas and the service sector, as this contributed significantly to the spread of deadly diseases and epidemics among citizens.
It pointed out that the attempts of Khan Yunis Municipality to extend services to the citizens and spare them health risks by all means and capabilities remain hindered due to the destruction of machines used for clearing sewage lines and manholes.
Khan Yunis Municipality appealed to donors to intervene immediately and urgently to provide modern machines and bulldozers to help remove the rubble and actually begin the reconstruction phase of the Gaza Strip.
