The Hamas Movement warned in a statement issued on Wednesday evening of the ongoing Israeli criminal policy against Palestinian prisoners, saying that thousands of them are held in harsh conditions, subjected to torture, starvation, and medical negligence, which exposes them to death at any moment.
“The Israeli crimes are still escalating against our brave prisoners, the latest of which was the martyrdom of prisoner Raafat Adnan Abdul Aziz Abu Funounah, 34, from Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip on Wednesday in Israeli prisons,” the statement reads.
“The martyrdom of prisoner Abu Funounah, who has been detained since October 7, and the torture and abuse he was subjected to during his detention, despite his injury and difficult health condition, proves the Israeli brutality against our prisoners.”
The Movement pointed out that this crime raises the number of Palestinian prisoners killed in Israeli jails since the genocide war to 60 martyrs, saying that “it is a dangerous and unprecedented number.”
Hamas renewed its calls on all free people of the world and human rights and legal bodies to pressure the Israeli occupation and hold it accountable for its crimes against the Palestinian people and to stand by Palestinian prisoners.
