The Ministry of Health announced that hospitals in the Gaza Strip are suffering from a major shortage of medicines, medical supplies and equipment.

The ministry explained in a press statement on Tuesday that the stocks of laboratories and blood banks are depleted, and what is available does not meet the requirements of work with the increasing number of the wounded.

Most of the injuries that reach hospitals as a result of the ongoing genocidal war in Gaza, are in the head and chest, it revealed.

Israel did not allow access of any medical equipment after destroying all the equipment in the Gaza Strip, and currently there is no MRI machine in all hospitals of the Gaza Strip, the ministry pointed out.

It further elaborated that the continued closure of the crossings, which prevents the entry of medical supplies and laboratory equipment, exacerbates the crisis and increases the number of martyrs.

It pointed out that there is a significant shortage of blood units, which is the backbone of service delivery, explaining that the need for blood units in hospitals reaches 8,000 units per month in order to cover the needs of the wounded as well as blood and thalassemia patients.

“We face a challenge in providing blood units from donors due to the lack of food, water and medicine security among citizens,” it said, adding that laboratories in Gaza and northern Gaza hospitals are working under emergency procedures due to the lack of laboratory equipment and consumables.”

The health system in Gaza has almost completely collapsed, with more than 80 percent of hospitals and medical centers out of service, according to a previous statement by the ministry.

Since the resumption of the Israeli genocidal war, hospitals have been receiving hundreds of injured people around the clock, most of them women and children, amid poor capabilities, lack of medical supplies and the scarcity of intensive care rooms, which number does not exceed more than four in all hospitals located in Gaza City and the northern Gaza Strip.
