The Government Media Office (GMO) in Gaza announced that Israeli occupation forces (IOF) targeted more than 4,000 houses and facilities equipped with solar energy systems as part of a systematic policy to destroy alternative sources of electricity in the Gaza Strip.
The GMO emphasized in a statement on Saturday that the IOF has continued to commit more crimes against civilians and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, in the context of the genocidal war that has been going on for more than 18 months, as it launched barbaric bombing and systematic air and land attacks targeting thousands of homes and civilian facilities, especially those equipped with solar energy systems, used as an alternative source of electricity, in an attempt to destroy the remaining elements of life in all governorates of the Gaza Strip without exception.
These brutal raids, according to the statement, resulted in the destruction of more than 4,000 homes and facilities containing solar energy systems, which are considered a vital artery for providing alternative electricity and operating medical equipment in hospitals and health centers, water wells, desalination plants, universities, schools, bakeries, factories, basic household facilities, and other vital sectors.
The statement stressed that this targeting constitutes a severe blow to the alternative energy sources on which the population in the Gaza Strip relies in light of the continuous electricity cuts for more than 550 days as a result of the escalating siege, genocidal war and ongoing aggression.
It emphasized that these crimes constitute a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and a flagrant breach of the most basic humanitarian principles, and fall within the policy of genocide practiced by the Israeli occupation against more than 2.4 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
It called on the international community, United Nations organizations, especially the Human Rights Council, to assume their legal and moral responsibilities, and to act immediately to stop the genocidal war and the ongoing aggression against civilians and vital facilities in the Gaza Strip.
It also called on international human rights and humanitarian organizations to document these crimes and submit them to international courts and forums, and to work hard to hold the Israeli officials accountable and prosecute them for their crimes against humanity.
The GMO urged donors and relief organizations to provide quick and safe alternatives to power generation systems, to compensate those affected, and to ensure the continuity of basic services in the Gaza Strip, especially health, education, water, environmental and food services.
“We hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the catastrophic humanitarian repercussions of these criminal policies, and we hold the US administration, the United Kingdom, Germany and France directly responsible for the continuation of these crimes, as a result of their unlimited political and military support for the occupation and their provision of international cover for its crimes against our defenseless Palestinian people,” it concluded.
