Jenin Municipality estimated the amount of losses resulting from the ongoing Israeli aggression on the city and its refugee camp at about $300 million, stressing that the Israeli occupation army is deliberately carrying out widespread destruction to turn the camp and its vicinity into an unlivable area.
The occupation forces have continued their aggression against Jenin and the camp for the 91st consecutive day on Monday, carrying out military operations including land bulldozing, burning down houses and converting some houses into military barracks.
The mayor of Jenin, Mohammed Jarrar, explained that the Israeli aggression on Jenin has led to the forced displacement of about 22,000 people, leading to a comprehensive economic paralysis in the region.
In televised statements on Monday, Jarrar underscored that the Israeli aggression on Jenin and its camp in the northern occupied West Bank has entered its fourth month, noting that the living and humanitarian conditions are continuously deteriorating due to the Israeli escalation.
Meanwhile, the Media Committee in Jenin said that the aggression against the camp continues under a suffocating siege that prevents the entry of any party or person, and undermines the most basic elements of life inside the camp.
The committee said in a press statement on Monday that the occupation forces dispatched heavy military reinforcements through the Jalameh checkpoint to the vicinity of the camp, accompanied by fuel and water tankers, pointing to the continuation of large-scale demolitions, and a tight siege that prevents the entry of any humanitarian aid or even journalists into the camp.
According to the committee, the occupation forces closed the road between Nablus and Jenin and the entrance to Bazaria town, and arrested two young men from Arraba town after raiding their homes. They stormed the towns of Kafr Dan and Al-Yamoun, fired at citizens, and targeted journalists while covering the events, it added.
The committee revealed that the occupation forces erected earthen berms near Twalaba Mosque at the northern entrance of the camp, amid intensive drone flights, and continued military exercises near Al-Jalameh checkpoint, with Israeli troops shooting towards the camp’s environs.
It stated that about 600 housing units were completely destroyed, in addition to hundreds of damaged houses that became uninhabitable, while the number of displaced people reached more than 21,000 people distributed throughout Jenin governorate, including 6,000 in the city, and 3,200 in the Arab American University residences, while Burqin town hosts about 4,181 displaced people.
The number of martyrs since the beginning of the aggression has risen to 41, including two martyrs shot by the Palestinian Authority’s security services, in addition to dozens of wounded and detainees.
