The spokesman for the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, Khalil al-Daqran, said that the lives of about one million children in Gaza are threatened by the spread of malnutrition diseases, noting that pregnant women are giving birth to incomplete fetuses as a result of acute shortage of food and medical care.

Al-Daqran warned of an imminent disaster threatening 600,000 children, if Israel continues to prevent the entry of polio vaccines, warning that the spread of the disease may reach neighboring countries.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Dr. Munir al-Bursh, confirmed in press statements on Monday morning that Israel is deliberately targeting the tents of the displaced and killing children, saying that “the percentage of burns is higher than we can imagine due to the use of deadly weapons.” He added that “many children have died of malnutrition,” amid “suspicious international silence” on the part of human rights and humanitarian organizations.

Dr. Fadi al-Madhoun, medical director of MSF/Doctors Without Borders in Gaza, said the health system in the Strip has “collapsed,” elaborating that about 50,000 sick and wounded people need urgent surgeries in light of the lack of medical supplies, and that “thousands of children are suffering from malnutrition.”

UNICEF expressed its deep concern about the collapse of the health system in the Strip, and confirmed in a post on X, last Saturday, that Gaza hospitals that treat children and newborns “lack sufficient medical equipment and work in extremely difficult conditions.”

The survival of Gaza’s children depends on the immediate re-imposition of a ceasefire and unhindered access to humanitarian aid, UNICEF added.
