The Government Media Office (GMO) in Gaza has revealed that the number of deaths in the Strip due to the starvation policy since the start of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, has risen to 57, the vast majority of whom are children, including the sick and the elderly.

In a press statement on Saturday, the GMO said that the number of hunger victims is likely to rise due to the closure of crossings and preventing the entry of aid, infant formula, and food supplements.

The GMO condemned the Israeli use of starvation as a war weapon, and the imposition of a suffocating siege on more than 2.4 million people in the Gaza Strip by completely closing the crossings for the 63rd consecutive day.

It called on the international community, humanitarian and international organizations, and human rights groups to take immediate and effective action and exert all means of pressure to open the Rafah crossing and all other crossings and ensure the urgent delivery of food and medicine before it is too late.

In a previous report, the GMO had stated that Israel deliberately “reduces the number of food trucks entering Gaza,” stressing that the use of starvation as a method of warfare is “internationally prohibited and constitutes a flagrant violation of the right to food, which is enshrined in international conventions as an inalienable human right, especially in times of conflict.”

It held the Israeli authorities “directly responsible for these violations which constitute international crimes,” and demanded that perpetrators must be prosecuted and held accountable before international courts.

Since October 7, 2023, with unconditional US support, Israel has been committing systematic genocide in the Gaza Strip, leaving more than 170,000 Palestinians martyred or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing.
