The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, mourned prisoner Muhi al-Din Najm, who died on Saturday afternoon in Israeli prisons due to the punitive policies practiced by the prison administration, including torture and medical neglect.
Najm, 60 years old, was martyred after spending 19 years in the Israeli prisons, including 17 consecutive years, on charges of resisting the occupation and belonging to the Al-Qassam Brigades. He completed his path of jihad as a wounded man, then a prisoner, and finally a martyr.
Hamas said in a press release on Sunday: “We mourn this heroic martyr to our people and Ummah,” reaffirming that “the Zionist occupation continues its Nazi-like crimes against our heroic prisoners and the leadership of the prisoner movement with unprecedented sadism in history in terms of torture and abuse.”
It warned that the continuation of these violations against prisoners would not go unanswered, stating, “Our people and our resistance will remain committed to our pledge to our free prisoners, whose will shall not be broken by the brutality of the occupation, and they will not be deprived of the certainty that their freedom is near and inevitable.”
Hamas called for urgent action to rescue prisoners who are subjected to severe and systematic oppression and torture in the Israeli prisons. It urged the masses of the Palestinian people in the West Bank to continue their activism and support for the prisoners and to stand up for the people’s just causes, rising against the crimes of the occupation and its settlers.
