The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) has ordered the administrative detention of the Palestinian journalist Ali Samoudi from Jenin, in the northern West Bank, for six months. He has been already imprisoned for 10 days.

His son, Muhammad Al-Samoudi, confirmed that his father’s lawyer informed him that his father had been held in administrative detention without charge for a period of six months, noting that his father appeared before the court last Tuesday, where his detention was extended for a period of six days, before the family was surprised by his administrative detention order. The lawyer was informed of the decision by the administration of Megiddo prison, where Samoudi is being held.

Veteran journalist Ali Samoudi suffers from chronic diseases, including diabetes and high blood pressure, in addition to shrapnel from previous injuries he sustained during his journalistic coverage over 30 years as a result of being targeted by the Israeli occupation army, according to his son Muhammad, who pointed out that his father was injured 11 times by Israeli occupation army’s gunfire during his work. The prison administration prevents Samoudi from obtaining his medications, amid family fears of a deterioration in his health as a result.

For its part, the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees and the Palestinian Prisoner Society confirmed in a press statement that the Israeli intelligence issued an administrative detention order against journalist Ali Samoudi, 58, for a period of six months, bringing the number of journalists administratively detained in the Israeli prisons to 20 journalists, out of 50 male and female journalists who the IOA continues to detain since the start of the war of extermination on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, in addition to six journalists who were imprisoned before this date.

The Commission and the Society pointed out that Samoudi’s arrest and administrative detention comes amidst IOA continued escalation of targeting journalists.

They held the IOA responsible for the life of journalist Samoudi, who suffers from many health problems and previous injuries, especially with the continuation of his detention in Megiddo prison, which witnessed the death of many prisoners due to medical neglect and systematic violations.
