At least one Lebanese citizen was martyred and eight others were wounded on Thursday in a series of Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon according to the Lebanese National News Agency.

The agency reported that a series of Israeli airstrikes targeted the vicinity of Nabatieh, while local media explained that the raids targeted mainly forested and mountainous areas far from residential centers.

The sound of the missiles and huge explosions were heard in most areas of Nabatieh and southern Lebanon, according to the agency.

It added that the explosions caused panic and terror among citizens, most of whom rushed to schools to evacuate their children. The panic caused traffic jams, with dozens of ambulances heading towards the targeted areas, while most official offices closed their doors.

The Israeli army announced in a press statement that its warplanes attacked a Hezbollah fire and defense system site in the Jabal al-Bufur area, as well as militants, combat vehicles, and wells, without providing further details.

The Israeli army also claimed that the targeted site “is part of a strategic underground project and the area has been rendered inoperable as a result of the strikes.”

For its part, the Lebanese Ministry of Health said that “Israeli enemy strikes on Nabatieh today have resulted in one martyr and eight people wounded, according to initial reports.”

The Israeli army claimed that its air force attacked “a site used for the management of Hezbollah’s fire and defense system in Jabal al-Shakif, south of Lebanon.”
