100 Palestinian refugee families live in Ataa village

Friday 28-October-2022

100 Palestinian refugee families along with 300 displaced Syrian families are living in Ataa village in northwestern Syria near the Syrian-Turkish border.

The Ataa Association for Relief and Development established the village in 2016 with donations from Palestinians within the Green Line and a Kuwaiti charitable foundation to be a refuge for those who were displaced from the Yarmouk refugee camp and neighboring areas in 2018.

The village has many narrow alleys and 35-sq houses.

The Palestinian refugee Abdul Rahman Al-Sheikh took refuge in one of these houses along with his wife and their three children.

Al-Sheikh told Quds Press that he is forced to sleep with his two sons while his wife share the other room with their daughter.

He expressed hope that he could leave the village to another better place and a larger private house.

In his turn the Palestinian refugee Malik expressed satisfaction that he finally moved to a new house in Ataa village after years of waiting.

Malik told Quds Press that the house is better than renting as he used to pay $100 for rent.

For his part the relief activist Ahmed Abu Jihad believes that the Ataa village is a model village compared to other residential communities that are built for refugees in northern Syria.

He pointed out that the village provides all public services including a school a mosque a medical center and a large market.

He pointed out that most of the Palestinian residents work in blacksmithing and construction.

Abu Jihad further said that the house is suitable for a three-member family.

1480 Palestinian refugee families are living in northern Syria amid very difficult living conditions.
