13 Birzeit University students have been in Israeli detention since they were kidnaped by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) following their solidarity visit in mid-July to the family of prisoner Muntaser Shalabi whose home was razed in Turmus Ayya town east of Ramallah.
According to Ismail al-Barghouthi coordinator of the Islamic Bloc at Birzeit University five of the students are being held in the Moskobiya detention center (west Jerusalem) and eight others in the Ofer jail (Ramallah).
All the detainees are members of the Islamic Bloc the student wing of the Hamas Movement.
Barghouthi said that the Israeli occupation wants to undermine the determination of the Islamic Bloc and prevent it from assuming its role in serving university students.
