140 Israeli administrative detention orders issued in current month

Wednesday 20-April-2022

More than 140 administrative detention orders have been issued by the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) against Palestinian citizens since the beginning of the current month April.

According to the Palestinian Prisoner Society over 50 of those administrative detention orders were issued for the first time against prisoners and the rest were extensions to previous orders against prisoners who have spent months or years in jail with no guilt.

During last March 195 administrative detention orders were issued by the IOA against Palestinian citizens.

In early January the administrative detainees announced a complete boycott of all judicial procedures related to their detention in protest at the Israeli policy of administrative detention. They entered day 110 of their protest step.

Those detainees including lawmakers received different administrative prison terms ranging between three to six months.

Administrative detention is incarceration without trial or charge and is widely used by Israel against the Palestinians solely at the pretext that a person plans to commit a future offense. It has no time limit and is based on alleged secret files.
