15 Fatah MPs call for holding emergency PLC session

Saturday 10-June-2017

15 Fatah MPs called on Saturday for holding an emergency session of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) to discuss the latest punitive measures waged by the Palestinian Authority (PA) which included cutting the salaries of deputies prisoners and Gaza employees.

In a press statement on Saturday the Fatah MPs held the PA president Mahmoud Abbas and his government responsible for the violations of the Palestinian law committed by the PA and the consequences of the collective punishment imposed on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

They called on all parliamentary blocs to convene an emergency session in which all members of the PLC are invited without exception to discuss the decisions taken by the PA government.

According to various sources the PA government cut in June 2017 the salaries of 14 Fatah deputies who support the dismissed Fatah leader Mohammed Dahlan.

The Fatah MPs stressed in the statement that the unjust salary cuts imposed on a number of Palestinian MPs will affect the legislative authority’s financial and administrative independence.

They called on the head of the Fatah parliamentary bloc MP Azzam al-Ahmad and the factions of the Palestine Liberation Organization to adopt a clear position on these measures affecting the sovereignty of the legislative authority the deputies’ immunity and the various Palestinian institutions.

They also condemned the silence of some parliamentary blocs and MPs vis-à-vis these arbitrary measures which encourage the PA government to adopt more unjustified violations and vowed to exercise their role to defend the sovereignty of the law by all available means.
