Dozens of Israeli settlers on Sunday morning forced their way into al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of Israeli police.
A member of the Knesset was among 200 Israeli settlers who broke into al-Aqsa Mosque and performed Talmudic rituals in the holy site amid heavy police presence.
Sunday’s settler break-in was part of Israel’s celebrations of Sukkot holiday which has witnessed over the past week increased settler visits to al-Aqsa Mosque and tightened restrictions on Palestinian worshipers and employees working in the site.
Spokesman for Jerusalem’s Islamic Awqaf Department Feras al-Dibs said that more settlers are expected to enter the Mosque later in the day.
