29 Palestinian refugees wounded in refugee camp fire on Iraqi-Syrian borders

Tuesday 9-October-2007

DAMASCUS (PIC)– Three Palestinian refugees suffered various burns while 26 others suffered suffocation or injuries after a big fire raged through their Tanaf camp on the Iraqi-Syrian borders two nights ago.

Ahmed Abdullah one of the refugees told the PIC in a telephone contact on Monday that the huge fire which started when a gas cylinder blasted in one of the tents destroyed 30 of the 100 tents making up the camp.

He said that the fire that broke out late Saturday night quickly spread from one tent to another in the absence of appropriate combat means.

Abdullah noted that among the wounded were two women one of whom is about to give birth.

The Palestinian refugees in that camp amounting to 341 individuals had tried to flee persecution at the hands of American occupation forces and their agents in Iraq but were denied entry by neighboring countries and were stranded at the no man’s land.

Tens of Palestinians were killed wounded or detained at the hands of those forces other than daily harassment against the 25000 refugees settling in Iraq since the 1948 usurpation of their homeland Palestine at the hands of Zionist gangs.
