The Coptic Orthodox Church in Jerusalem said that three Egyptian monks were injured on Wednesday when the Israeli police violently attacked a protest near the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
The Coptic Church said in press statements that five other priests were arrested and detained for hours.
The protest was organized against some restoration work done at Deir es-Sultan monastery by Israel’s Jerusalem municipality without the approval of the Coptic Church.
The Coptic Church stressed that the monastery has been part of the Church since Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi gave it to them after the liberation of Jerusalem.
