4 Palestinian commercial facilities threatened with demolition

Monday 28-February-2022

The Israeli municipal authorities issued new demolition orders targeting four Palestinian commercial facilities in Jabal Mukaber town in Occupied Jerusalem on Sunday afternoon.

Local sources said that Israeli police forces stormed the town and handed demolition orders of four local facilities owned by Ja’fra family for being allegedly built without Israeli permit.

The Israeli forces also confiscated a 3-dunum land lot also owned by the same family.

The notified facilities include a 100-square-meter store a bakery and a car wash.

Local NGOs and rights groups have long pointed to a range of Israeli practices and policies in Jerusalem aimed at altering the demographic ratio in favor of Jewish settlers a goal laid out as “maintaining a solid Jewish majority in the city” in the municipality’s 2000 master plan.

Unlawful settlement expansion Palestinian home demolitions and restrictions on urban development are some of the main ways being used to realize this goal according to rights groups.
