The Palestinian Prisoners Center for Studies reported on Monday that the number of Palestinians held under administrative detention in Israeli jails increased to 535 including two women three children five MPs and a number of cancer patients.
Despite the Palestinian administrative detainees’ boycott of the Israeli courts since the beginning of 2022 the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) escalated issuing administrative orders according to the Center’s director Riyad Al-Ashkar.
“The IOA issued and extended more than 400 detention orders in the first quarter of 2022 bringing the number of Palestinian administrative detainees held in Israeli prisons to 535” Al-Ashkar said adding that this number is expected to increase due to the escalating arrests and attacks in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Administrative detention is incarceration without trial or charge and is widely used by Israel against the Palestinians solely at the pretext that a person plans to commit a future offense. Palestinian prisoners are held under administrative detention without time limit and based on alleged secret files.
