RAMALLAH (PIC)– Six Palestinian detainees have been on an open-ended hunger strike in protest at being held without charge or trial in the Israeli occupation jails the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) reported Wednesday.

According to a statement by the PPS Palestinian inmate Bilal Omar Daoud from Bethlehem has been on a hunger strike for the sixth day running.

Prisoner Daoud detained since March 4 2015 has been serving two consecutive six-month prison-terms in the Meggido lock-up.

Nidal Abu Aker 48 Shadi Maali 39 Ghassan Zawahreh 32 all from Bethlehem and Badr al-Ruzza from Nablus along with Munir Abu Sharar from al-Khalil have begun their hunger strike since August 20 to protest their detention without trial.

All six inmates were transferred from the Negev jail to the Ayala solitary lock-downs.

Administrative detention allows for the arbitrary internment of Palestinians without trial or charge for six-month terms that can be renewed indefinitely. The policy has been strongly condemned by the international community as well as both Israeli and Palestinian human rights activists.
