61-year-old Palestinian detainee Rizq al-Rajoub has resumed his open-ended hunger strike protesting an Israeli court rule to extend his administrative detention.
According to a Monday statement by the Prisoners’ and Ex-Prisoners’ Commission Israeli Ashkelon military court extended his detention administratively up to 6 new months.
Rajoub a native of al-Khalil’s town of Dura in the southern occupied West Bank was arrested on November 27 2017 and given two options either to be deported outside Palestine or to serve an administrative detention sentence.
On December 23 Rajoub started an open hunger strike which he suspended on January 15 after promises to end his administrative detention.
Prisoner Rajoub had previously been locked up for a total of 23 years in Israeli jails including 10 years in administrative detention with neither charge nor trial.
