The free world marks today the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People which coincided with the partition of Palestine.
In 1977 the UN General Assembly called for the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
On that day in 1947 the General Assembly adopted the 181 resolution which called for the partition of Palestine into Arab and Jewish states.
The resolution was passed with 33 votes in favor 13 against and 10 abstentions.
The partition resolution granted 55 percent of Palestine to the Jews who at that time comprised only 30 percent of the population and only the remaining 43 percent of the land to its original owners with the city of Jerusalem and Bethlehem to be governed by a special international regime.
Following the partition resolution the Israeli settler gangs continued to seize large areas of the Palestinian land after forcibly displacing tens of thousands of Palestinian families and declared themselves a state over 78% of historical Palestine.
Although 69 years have passed since the partition resolution Israel continues its illegal settlement construction amid growing international criticism.
