7 Palestinian prisoners continue hunger strike despite health risks

Friday 29-October-2021

Seven Palestinian prisoners continued on Friday their hunger strike launched several weeks ago in protest at their unfair administrative detention without charge or trial.

The oldest detainee on hunger strike is Kayed Fasfous who has been on hunger strike for 107 days in protest at his detention without charge or trial followed by Miqdad Qawasmeh (100 days) Alaa Aaraj (82 days) Hesham Abu Hawwash (73 days) Shadi Abu-Akr (66 days) Ayyad Hureimi (37days) and Louay Al-Ashqar (19 days).

Along the same line the prisoner Rateb Hrebat has been on hunger strike for 21 days in solidarity with the striking prisoners.

Hassan Abd Rabbo spokesman for the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs warned of the serious health deterioration of Kayed Fasfous who is currently held at Israel’s Barzilai Medical Center.

In this regard he strongly denounced the Israeli decision to renew his administrative detention without charge or trial.

He also warned of the possibility of the death of any prisoner of the hunger strikers in the coming hours due to their critical health situations.

Meanwhile five prisoners continue to reject taking their medicines for the 41st consecutive day in protest against their administrative detention.

The prisoners were identified by media sources as Youssef Qazzaz Ayed Doudin Ahmed Abu Sundus Yasser Badrasawy and Amin Shweiki.

Currently Israel is holding over 530 Palestinians in administrative detention deemed illegal by international law most of them former prisoners who spent years in prison for their resistance to the Israeli occupation.

Israel’s widely condemned policy of administrative detention allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals usually ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.
