Mai Al-Kailah the Palestinian Minister of Health announced on Saturday that 9 deaths and 1623 new cases of the coronavirus and 1209 recoveries were recorded during the last 24 hours.
Kailah confirmed in the daily epidemiological report of coronavirus that 5 deaths and 910 infections were recorded in the West Bank and one death and 151 infections in the Gaza Strip. In Jerusalem 3 deaths and 562 infections were recorded.
Kailah pointed out that there are 110 critically ill patients who have been admitted to intensive care units including 33 who have been placed on ventilators.
She noted that the recovery rate of coronavirus reached 91.2 percent while the rate of active infections reached 7.8 percent and the death rate was 1.0% of all infections.
Meanwhile Anan Rashid the Coordinator of the Corona Patients’ file said that the high occupancy rate of ICUs reaching 95% is a dangerous sign and shows an increase in the number of infections.
In an interview with Voice of Palestine radio Rashid attributed the reason for the high number of infections to the citizens’ lack of commitment to health measures and the spread of the COVID-19 British mutation that led to the transfer of 60 to 70 percent of the infections to hospitals for treatment.
For his part Afif Atawneh the official in the Corona file in the south of the West Bank stated that the new mutation affects young people and they suffer from severe symptoms. He warned that the number of deaths will increase during the next period if citizens do not adhere to public safety measures.
