APU to send aid convoy to Gaza in Ramadan

Wednesday 14-July-2010

CAIRO (PIC)– The Arab parliamentary union (APU) has decided to send an aid convoy to Gaza Strip in the holy Islamic fasting month of Ramadan which starts in August.

The APU committee formed to send convoys to Gaza held a meeting at the Arab League’s general secretariat in Cairo under chairmanship of Algerian MP Abdul Qader Al-Samari on Tuesday and discussed the practical steps and next strategy for sending relief convoys to the besieged Gaza Strip.

Samari said in a press release that coordinators were appointed in the Arab countries to organize fund-raising campaigns for the relief convoys.

He noted that the Ramadan convoy would carry Ramadan special needs while other convoys would carry school and winter needs.

The MP said that his committee which was formed by the APU on 5/6/2010 would make intensified contacts with civil societies and benevolent people in the Arab world to induce them to participate in the APU convoys or to organize their own relief convoys which the APU would help facilitate their arrival in Gaza.
