Monday 7-May-2007

GAZA (PIC)– PA chief Mahmoud Abbas and PA premier Ismail Haneyya have met Sunday in Gaza city to discuss a number of issues pertaining to the Palestinian internal and external affairs including security matters in the Palestinian arena.

Dr. Ghazi Hamad the spokesman of the PA unity government described the session as “positive” and that both PA officials pledged full support to the security plan of PA interior minister Hani Al-Kawasmi.

He also unveiled that Abbas will meet with Kawasmi in one-on-one meeting on Monday to discuss all matters relating to the security condition in the PA-run lands as well as the minister’s resignation.

Kawasmi had rendered his resignation a couple of weeks ago over unwarranted meddling in his ministry’s affairs by “unauthorized” persons and for the lack of logistical supplies to the PA security apparatuses under his command.

Hamad also underlined that Abbas had pledged full support for Kawasmi in order to help him execute the security plan properly quoting Abbas as saying to Kawasmi  “We came here to help you succeed not fail”.

Moreover the spokesman disclosed that the two largest factions in the Palestinian arena Hamas and Fatah will hold a series of meetings in the presence of Abbas and Haneyya to follow up mutual agreements between them and to discuss the Palestinian issues in detail.

Nabil Abu Rudaina the spokesman of the PA presidency seconded Hamad’s optimistic remarks affirming that a series of meetings between the two parties will start on Monday to follow up the issues agreed upon in Abbas-Haneyya meeting.
