Abbas Haneyya to meet in Gaza on unity government

Wednesday 28-February-2007

GAZA (PIC)– Spokesman of the PA caretaker government Dr. Ghazi Hamad affirmed on Wednesday that PA chief Mahmoud Abbas and commissioned PA premier Ismail Haneyya will meet on Saturday in Gaza city to discuss the next PA unity cabinet line-up.

Hamad affirmed that Haneyya concluded his discussions with Palestinian factions and political parties over the next government underlining that Palestinian factions interested in joining the unity government including Hamas and Fatah will submit their lists of nominees for the first PA unity government on Friday.

In this context Hamad expressed optimism that the next government will be formed within the next week.

For his part Hamas’ prominent political leader Dr. Osama Al-Muzzaini affirmed that the list of his Movement’s candidates was ready but the Movement preferred to wait for other factions to finalize their lists so as to present them together.

The Hamas leader also stressed that his Movement was and still is favoring the participation of all Palestinian factions in the unity government revealing that Hamas will re-approach Palestinian factions that rejected to participate in the unity government.

“We will approach Palestinian factions who asked to be excluded from the unity government again and we will create a mechanism in order to persuade them into changing their minds even if that mechanism would be at the expense of the two biggest factions (Hamas and Fatah)” Muzzaini explained.

He also stressed that the international community should deal with members of the new PA unity government equally and without discrimination asserting that the world must respect and deal with the Palestinian will and national agreement.

On Tuesday Haneyya met with Hamas and Fatah delegations at his office in Gaza and asked them to submit names of their candidates not later than Friday.
