A tripartite summit between the Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and his Jordanian and Palestinian counterparts Mahmoud Abbas and King Abdullah II will be held on Monday in Cairo to discuss the U.S. President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Al-Sisi made phone calls with the two leaders on Sunday discussing the importance of intensifying international contacts to show the negative repercussions of Trump’s decision and push ahead with the establishment of an independent Palestinian State having Jerusalem as its eternal capital.
On Wednesday night Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of the self-proclaimed Israeli state during a televised speech from the White House. Trump’s decision was met by a barrage of criticism and condemnations from many Arab and world leaders while protests took place in Gaza Strip the West Bank and in different Arab and European countries.
